PSC53C: Christmas Critters

We are still celebrating our one year Anniversary/Birthday at The Perfect Sentiment with daily challenges, prizes, blog hops with hidden prizes, and a chance at a fabulous grand prize which you can see here. I sure hope you plan on stopping by to play in a challenge or two or even better play them all as you have until October 30th to complete all four and have a chance at that fabulous grand prize!

PSC53C: The Challenge/Twist: create a card with a sentiment for Christmas; include a critter somewhere on your card. We are looking for animals, bugs, mice, etc. Not humans. You can have a human on your card but, there must be evidence of a critter somewhere. For example: A little girl holding a puppy would work fine. Don't forget to include your sentiment on the front!

I chose to use Cocoa the Mouse as my critter. My inspiration for the design of this card came from this week's sketch at The Sweet Stop. I haven't played along with one of their sketches since my Design Term ended with them last year. That's a long time.

Supplies: American Crafts CS and Designer Paper; Gina K Designs Pure Luxury CS; Liquid Pearls; Stickles; Tiny flowers from Prima; flower brads from stash; Santa's Helper Stamp Set from Sweet N Sassy Stamps.

Hop along to the following blogs to see what our Perfect Sentiments Team has created to inspire you!

Jenn(you are here)

Be sure to leave a comment at each blog as there are hidden prizes along the way.

Once you are inspired to create, come back and link up your creation using the inlinkz tool below the challenge post to have a chance at today's prize:
Crafty City will award one lucky random winner a $5 gift voucher to be used in their store. Plus, if you spend $25 or more they will throw in this 6x6 Paper Pad by Glitz Designs:
Regretfully, if you are a prize winner who lives outside of the United States, we will have to substitute your prize with a digital prize that can be sent via electronic mail. By the time we have to do the customs paperwork and everything associated with sending parcels out of the United States, it always costs more than what the prize is worth in most cases, and this includes Canada, unless you have a Post Office Box in the United States. APO and PPO box addresses are considered US. Thanks for your understanding.

Hurricane, End of an Era and Other Stuff

Hello everyone! I'm so grateful to be back online and have electricity! I'm blessed to be able to say that my family is safe and sound and we did not sustain any major damage from Hurricane Irene. I know I have a lot of catching up to do with commenting so please bear with me.

If you've been a loyal follower and reader of my blog then you know that I have been on the Christian Paper Crafts Design Team in one form or another since March 2010. It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing that I have stepped down from this organization. Back in October of 2010 I had to take a leave of absence from Christian Paper Crafts for medical reasons. When I returned in January 2011, although the site was still owned by my dear friend Cindy Coutts she had stepped down as the Servant in Charge and brought in an Executive Administrator to run things. So, this was quite a bit different than what I had originally signed on for. Cindy ran the site with such grace and understanding and she let each DT member carve out their own place at CPC...including giving me my own forum to share my passion for the Cricut. To summarize, in January when I returned full-time I thought I was just coming "home" but, things were really different. I needed to either get with the new program devised by the Executive Admin or I needed to get out. It has taken me 8 months to figure this out. So, I left this weekend. This doesn't mean that I no longer respect CPC and the message they are trying to send or that I'm not grateful to have had the opportunity to design for this organization and the opportunity to meet some wonderful Christian women. It just means that CPC is no longer a good fit for me and I am no longer a good fit for CPC. There are more changes to come at CPC that would be wrong for me to divulge at this time and I honestly don't know if those changes are going to be good or bad for this organization. Is there a gaping hole there because I have removed my "talent"? Absolutely not! And I'm certain that they will replace me with someone more enthusiastic and better suited to the "Spirit of CPC". I wish Cindy and her team the absolute best in their future endeavors.

My next news is that this past Saturday was the end of my Design Team term with the Sweet Stop Sketch Blog. This I will miss! Korin and Monika are the easiest people to design for and I am super grateful to have had the opportunity. I would have liked to continue on but, the term is only 3 months.

What's next for me...I don't know. Maybe nothing. Maybe something. I know this will give me the time and opportunity to just "play" with paper again.

If you've made it through all that...God Bless YOU! I'm going to leave you with my latest card I designed for Classy Cards n Such.

Today's card is all about letting the patterned paper do the work for you. I love to stamp but there are times when I don't feel like coloring in the images or I'd just like to make a card where my sentiment is the focus. With all the gorgeous patterned papers that are out there on the market you don't always need a stamped image to tell your story because the paper does it for you. Those blue pine trees just scream snow! Flip that paper over and you find a wonderful blue snowflake pattern. I punched some snowflakes out using a Martha Stewart Crafts snowflake punch and added some bling to the centers cause snowflakes really do sparkle!

Supplies:
Webster's Pages Waiting for Santa/Sweet Season DSP
Stardream Fuse Vista CS
Reich Shine CS
Spellbinders Labels 18
Holiday Phrases-Verve Stamps
Martha Stewart Crafts snowflake punch
EK Success snowflake border punch

Sweet Stop Sketch 122

Hello everyone! It's Saturday and I hope that you are off to a wonderful weekend! Saturday also means that it's time for another sketch from the Sweet Stop. Before, I get into the sketch I wanted to share some news with you...This week Korin, the owner of Sweet n Sassy Stamps/Sweet Stop announced that they have become a Member Company at Splitcoast Stampers! The excitement all began on Monday with the August New Release party held in their brand new Member Company forum on SCS. Nothing has changed as far as the Sweet Stop sketches and they will still be hosted at the Sweet Stop blog. If you are a member of the Sweet n Sassy Connection that is still operating as usual. There is one new thing...A new challenge called the Sweet n Sassy Inspiration challenge that can be found in the member company forum at SCS. I combined the inspiration challenge with the sketch.

Here is Taylor's inspiration piece...

Here is Korin's sketch with a spin for this week...

Here is my card combining the two challenges...

Supplies:
Paisley and Petals DSP, Baja Breeze CS, Always Artichoke CS, - Stampin' Up!®; Frayed Burlap and Broken China distress inks - Ranger Industries; Lace-WalMart; Button-Basic Grey; Flower-CTMH; August Gladiola stamp set - Sweet n Sassy Stamps; Victoria embossing folder-Provo Craft; Lacey Labels cartridge, Cricut Expression - vvs

I used the Frayed Burlap distress ink over the raised areas of the of the Victoria embossing folder so that the embossed detail would be more visible. I inked the edges of the half-circle with Broken China distress ink as well as directly inking the white flower with the same ink to have the flower stand out more.

Sweet Stop Sketch 121

Hi Everyone! Hope you all are having a fantastic weekend. It's Saturday and time for another sketch at the Sweet Stop.
Here is the sketch for this week:
Here is my take on the sketch...

My image is "Cocoa's Teacup" from Sweet n Sassy Digi stamps. My sentiment is from Verve Stamps. Everything I used on this card is from my older "stash" of products. This sketch was a lot of fun and pretty straightforward. It is definitely going in my stack of go-to sketches.

Sweet Stop Sketch 118

Hello everyone! It's Saturday and time for another sketch from the Sweet Stop.

I think this is my favorite sketch so far! I just know I will refer back to it again. I had such fun making this card.

Let's take a look at some of the details...

Using my Cricut Expression and Elegant Edges cartridge I cut out a scalloped oval in Whisper White cardstock. I stamped the hummingbird tulip image from the "Joyful Heart" stamp set from Sweet n Sassy stamps onto the white oval and colored it with Copics. This was then mounted onto a Melon Mambo cardstock scalloped oval. I inked the edges with Melon Mambo ink and then added Flamingo Liquid Pearls in the center of each circle.

Here you see a close-up of the sentiment from the "Joyful Heart" stamp set as well as a closeup of the scalloped border I cut using the Cricut and Elegant Edges cartridge. The border was cut in Pool Party cardstock and then accented with Peacock Liquid pearls.

✄Supplies✄
  • Cardstock: Pool Party, Melon Mambo, Pink Pirouette, Whisper White
  • Designer Paper: Echo Park "springtime"
  • Ink: Pool Party, Melon Mambo Classic Ink; Spun Sugar Distress Ink
  • Accessories: Martha Stewart Crafts border punch; Peacock, Flamingo Liquid Pearls; White Organza ribbon
  • Cricut Cartridges: Elegant Edges
  • Stamps: Sweet n Sassy "Joyful Heart"

Sweet Stop Sketch 117

Hello blogging friends. It' Saturday and that means time for a new Sweet Stop Sketch. It's also time for a spin with the sketch and the spin is:Christmas in July.

This sketch looks pretty straight-forward and easy to work with. Can't wait to see your take on it.

Be sure to visit my fellow Sugar Babies to see what they did with the sketch and then join us at the Sweet Stop to play along and link up your creation.

Wait a minute! Something is missing, right? Right you are! It's my sample for the sketch.

Well, on Wednesday my 76-year old Mom decided she would go out to her little garden and pick some tomatoes. She took a tumble and broke her hip and wrist. I've been living at the hospital except for coming home to shower and check emails and there was no-time to create. I am blessed to be on one of the most understanding Design Teams in the world. I was surrounded by their support and prayers and I am super grateful to be on the Sweet Stop Team. Great group of ladies to work with. Really, exceptional! Mom underwent her surgery today without any complications which is nothing short of a miracle as she has Congestive Heart Failure. They say that the hard part begins now. It's a move or die situation. According to the surgeon and anesthesiologist there is a 25% mortality rate during the recovery period of this surgery. You have to keep moving regardless of how painful it is or blood clots, pneumonia or other complications can arise and that is what actually takes your life. I believe my Mom to be a fighter. And I also believe that God is bigger than that 25%! So, I am believing and praying that she will be one of the ones who beats the odds.

Well, if you've made it this far then God Bless you for reading my story and I ask that you remember my Mom in your thoughts and prayers. I've set this post up to automatically publish at midnight on the 16th. It's currently 7:15pm EST on the 15th and I am headed back to the hospital to spend the night. This time I am taking my copics and a clipboard full of digi images that I have printed out. So, when my Mom is resting I will be coloring.

Also, I want to give a shout-out to Sami my partner in Cricut Crafting Crime! I told you last week that she was going to be exploring the layers feature on the Life is a Beach cartridge and she has a couple of posts already up on her blog as well as a video. So please pay her a visit.

Thanks for stopping by today. Sorry for the lack of a creative post but, I think you can understand why.

Sweet Stop Sketch 116

Hello blogging Friends! It's Saturday and time for another Sweet Stop Sketch Challenge.

Working with Rich Razzleberry and Old Olive designer paper and cardstock, I created the different layers of my card. I distressed and inked the edges of my patterned paper for a shabby look.

Using my favorite Cricut cartridge, Elegant Edges, I cut the labels to stamp and mat my scripture on. Wanting to add to the romantic feel of the lace, I used Liquid Pearls in Bisque to create pearl accents around the label.

Using a sentiment from "Joy for Your Journey" by Verve Stamps and a crescent shaped mini tag Sizzlets die, I created the text panel shown off to the side in the sketch.

I would love for you to visit my fellow Sugar Babies to see what they did with the sketch:

Sweet Stop Sketch 115

It's Saturday and that means it's time for another sketch challenge at the Sweet Stop!

This sketch looks so simple but, it was a real struggle for me. Go figure. LOL
I hope you still see some of the sketch in my card. Otherwise, Korin might relinquish me of my Design Team duties and I will have to resort to begging!
  Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net
Let's take a look at the details...
A simple but fun sentiment from the "Feeling Fruity Cocoa" stamp set from Sweet n Sassy Stamps.
Hand-stitching added to both side edges of the card for that little extra something.

I cut out this label using Whisper White cardstock and the Elegant Edges cartridge. I experimented with Copic Airbrushing my background...bad idea! I have a lot of practicing to do. This darling Cocoa Watermelon image is from the "Feeling Fruity Cocoa" stamp set from Sweet n Sassy Stamps.

Another look at the finished product...
This fun patterned paper is from Jillibean Soup. The card base was made from Green Galore cardstock. I distressed the edges of the green polka dot paper and inked them with Green Galore Classic Ink.

I would love for you to visit my fellow Sugar Babies to see what they did with the sketch:

Come and join us at the Sweet Stop!

On a side note today I am excited to share with you that this card...
was chosen as the winner for the Our Daily Bread Designs Stamping in Time Challenge!
As a reward I get a $15 gift certificate to their store. Pretty cool!

Have a wonderful Saturday!
