Garden Fronds

The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.
~Isaiah 58:11

Hello friends! Today I am sharing a card that I designed for the Classy Cards N Such Store. It was inspired by our challenge this week which is to use a stencil on your card. I sure hope you will play along with us.

I started my card with a pre-made Kraft card base from Recollections. I cut a piece of white cardstock that was 1/4 inch smaller on all sides than the base. Using a low tack tape I secured the Memory Box Garden Fronds stencil to the white cardstock. Using the Dreamweaver's Paste Spreader, I scooped out some Translucent Embossing Paste and spread it over the stencil. Using the edge of the spreader, I smoothed the paste down and removed any excess and put it back into the jar.

Now, it's time for the fun to begin! I removed all the tape and slowly lifted up the stencil. I saw a lovely white paste imprint of the Garden Fronds. Next, using some chunky glitter I had in my stash from Stampin' Up!®, I covered the white paste with glitter. Once I was certain I had all the paste covered, I turned the cardstock over and tapped off the excess. Oh how pretty the reveal was!

Once I was certain the glitter and paste were set, I distressed the edges of the white cardstock and then inked them withVersaMagic chalk ink. In the bottom right corner, I stamped a little sentiment. One that is perfect to brighten anyone's day.

Sentiment from Verve Stamps: Small Phrases

Monochromatic Thoughts of You @ The Perfect Sentiment

Happy Wednesday!! It's time for a new challenge at The Perfect Sentiment. This week we are challenging you to make a card with a sentiment that lets someone know they are in your thoughts. Our twist for the challenge is to use a monochromatic color scheme.

Our sponsor is the ever-fabulous Stitchy Bear Stamps.
One lucky random winner will receive a $10 Gift Voucher.

I must admit this challenge was much harder than I thought it would be! I love coral and peach tones and that is the direction I was attempting to go in for my monochromatic color scheme. I used Cajun Craze, Tangerine Tango, and Peach Parfait all from SU.

My stamps are from Unity's April 2010 Store Kit of the Month. The different layers were cut out with my Cricut using George & Basic Shapes as well as Elegant Edges cartridges. I love using the Cricut for cutting out basic shapes because you can get the perfect mat for your layers using the shadow feature so it takes all the guesswork out it. The rose is a Sugar Bloom from Prima.

This card is a little too clean and simple for my taste but, what's done is done!

Hop on by my team mates' blogs to see how they answered this challenge...

Classy Cards N Such: 3-D Art

Last week I had the opportunity to experiment with the wonderful 3-D art that Beverly has in the Classy Cards N Such Online Store. I chose to work with the 3-D die-cut flowers by the sheet. The sheet I worked with has Lilacs, Hyacinths, and Anemones on it. This was super easy and fun. All you do is pop-out the completed flower arrangement that you want to work with. Then, working by numbers (and the sheet is numbered) you adhere the layers on top of the die-cut arrangement with foam pads. I used the new foam pads by Joy Crafts that Beverly has recently added to the store and I really like working with them. I bought both sizes and I'm glad I did. The smallest size is just perfect for those little tiny things, like flower stems, that need to be popped-up.

Once I had my arrangement completed I adhered it to a Stardream Chiara Coral lacy oval that I cut with my Spellbinders Lacy Oval die. For my card base I used Esse Smooth Pearlized White Neenah Paper. I added a layer of designer paper from the Romantique Collection by Prima. Next, I added a strip of the Textured Two-Toned Ribbon by May Arts in Pink/White across the base layer before adhering the lacy oval with my floral arrangement. This ribbon is so gorgeous in real life. For the finishing touch, I added some Silver Rhinestones Swirls to the corners. The swirls are actually from a larger piece of bling from Want 2 Scrap and I just cut off the pieces I wanted to use on my card. Don't worry, the rest of the bling is still very useable.

This card came together quickly using the 3-D art and I strongly encourage you to try a sheet. You'll be hooked in no time! I bought one of every sheet and I can't wait to make another card using these gorgeous flowers.

I am entering this card into the Stamps R Us "bling it on challenge" and the 2 Sisters "anything goes challenge".

Don't forget to come and join us on Wednesday at The Perfect Sentiment for a new challenge and chance to win a prize!

Verve Get Your Diva On: Monochromatic

It's time again for another Verve Get Your Diva On Challenge and this month Sankari has challenged us to using a monochromatic color scheme. I actually enjoy working with monochromatic schemes and my favorite one to use is pink.

Here is what I came up with for Sankari's challenge:
I used Blushing Bride and Regal Rose from Stampin' Up!® to create my monochromatic color scheme.

The challenge this week at Stamp R Us is friendship. I made this card with my long-time friend, Joanne in mind. We met each other at work several years ago, instantly hit it off as friends, and worked together for 16 years until I had to leave retail due to Fibromyalgia. Of course we promised to stay in touch and get together as often as possible but life does get in the way and it's been awhile since I've seen her. She's really been on my mind a lot this week so I used the "I've been thinking about you" sentiment from Verve Stamps.

A nice lady whose name is Heather from SCS left a comment on my card in the gallery and said it fit perfectly for a new challenge that started this week at Dolce Stamps and Cards to create a distressed card. I rarely make a card without distressing the edges of at least one piece of paper or using inks to distress the edges so this was right up my alley. Thanks Heather for that tip!

Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge 90

This week over at Stampin' Sisters in Christ the challenge based off of this scripture...

Proverbs 10:20-21 "The tongue of the righteous is as choice silver, the heart of the wicked is worth little. The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of understanding."

...is to make an encouragement card with a touch of silver.

After stamping and heat embossing my image I used a bleach technique to remove all the color from inside the image. I stamped the image on Sahara Sand cardstock and when bleached it leaves a pale yellow shade. I decided to leave the pale yellow for the centers of my flowers but to replace the rest of the color in the petals and leaves with my Copics. I noticed that in some areas where the bleach had gone outside the lines it gave the image a 'highlight or halo' effect which I liked. So after coloring my image in with Copics I went back around the edges of the image with bleach using an aqua painter to get the 'halo effect' around my entire image.

Over at Craft Us Crazy, there challenge was to use something new and/or your favorite embellishment. Something new would be my Elements of Style stamp set and Because I Care stamp set. I really love all my embellishments but, my all-time favorite which I have a ton of is brads!
